Introducing | The Michelle Adams for Skyline Collection
Hi guys! This is an incredibly exciting and personal post for me, and will likely explain why I've been M.I.A. on my blog for a few months. ;) I've had a giant project up my sleeve!
As a little background, my fascination with interior design began as a child and was full-fledged by the time I was a teen and had discovered two of my favorite female entrepreneurs: Cath Kidston and Rachel Ashwell. Both women are textile designers with their own collections ranging from furniture to lighting, accessories, bedding and even clothing. So on my bucket list, adding "product designer" to my name has long since ranked no. 1.
So, when Meganne Wecker from Skyline Furniture called me in March to ask if I had any interest in designing my own collection with her team at Skyline, I nearly lost my mind!
The next week I was on a plane to Chicago to visit the Skyline offices, a shop they’ve run for 70 years. Meganne’s grandfather started Skyline and then her father took the helm before passing it along to Meganne, who arguably has brought about some of the biggest growth and expansion this family-run business has ever seen. With her direction, Skyline manufactures products for our favorite retailers (think Target, West Elm, Neiman’s…the list goes on) and I am humbled to say that my collection with them marks the first time they’ve done a branded collaboration under their name!
Together we pored over pages of the inspiration book I had created for the collection, and then headed into the fabric room where we spent the day pulling samples and editing down piles of fabric to find the most chic and timeless assortment. I studied textile design in college (because of Cath and Rachel;) so this part of the design process was a total dream come true for me.
Then we hit the factory floor. Hearing Meganne explain how they train their upholsterers themselves to ensure quality and that all their furniture is made right here in the U.S. made me even more excited about this collaboration. These people know their craft!
When I landed back in Michigan I had one task: to cull the collection down to the most important pieces for launch. Once One Kings Lane came on board to house the collection exclusively (hello bucket list dream #2!) and the deadline loomed I knew I had to just go with my gut, and choose the pieces I loved enough to use in my own home and the fabrics and finishes that felt timeless.
So now I'm beyond psyched to share The Michelle Adams for Skyline Collection with you! Below are some pics of my home so you can see where each piece from my collection landed and why I think they work. I'll be sharing these pics on social with the hashtag #MichelleAdamsForSkyline and hope that you'll follow along! :) You can also check out more pics of my home, here.
